GSP's Book of the Day October 26

The Green Man's Curse by R. M. Brandon

#gypsyshadow #horror #youngadult

Rein's summer of dreams would soon become a season of nightmares. What begins as a farewell trip for a group of eight lifelong suburban friends becomes far more permanent than they had planned. When a four-wheeler accident in an ancient forest awakens a centuries-old curse, new friends are made and old friends die. Wrapped in a world unlike anything she ever imagined, Rein is forced to confront the demons of her family's past. As she denies the love she feels for her best friend's twin brother, Conley, they fight an array of magical beasts whose sole intention is to kill anything human and reclaim the earth for their own.

Surviving Your African Safaris by Steve Foreman

#gypsyshadow #checkeditout #survival

It is important to note that safaris and adventurous holidays in Africa can be, by their very nature and the environments in which they take place, culturally challenging, physically demanding, risky to health, potentially dangerous and, without the correct preparation and skills, horribly disastrous! The type of preparedness one undergoes is usually based on previous personal experience and the pre-departure advice supplied by the travel companies who organise your trip (tour operators and safari outfitters). These elements vary enormously, from individual to individual and from company to company. This book is intended to cover all the aspects and contingencies one might encounter, by providing a selection of advice, checklists, guidelines and essays, designed to help the reader, whatever role or position in the group, to have an enjoyable and successful trip.

This little story is for youngsters up to the age of perhaps 10. It is about a tiny sprig of a post oak that grows in a huge forest totally consisting of pines. It is resented and not wanted by the pines, does not understand why it was thrust into such a place and is unmercifully teased and tormented by the older pines. In the end, however, it perseveres and progresses to its intended destiny as a lovely shade tree in a restful meadow. The story presents to youngsters that they can succeed in life even through adversity.
